I am least familiar with Scout Finch, Claudine and Mary Lennox since I haven't read those books. I really need to read To Kill A Mockingbird soon. I also wanted to get a good mix of familiar, well-loved and lesser-known books, and I felt kind of like it was LHOP or Betsy-Tacy in that case. But oh do I LOVE the Betsy-Tacy books! Part of my criteria for choosing author/heroine pairs was to have an incident from the author’s life that shed new or interesting light on her actual heroine, and I felt that MHL’s life was too parallel to Betsy’s to be super surprising.
