Very nice list! I like the themes you've chosen to highlight, as well. There are indeed ALWAYS others one could choose (I should know!), but you have selected a fine group of women. I look forward to reading your chapters, which I am sure come from the heart (as well as your research!).

You've got me covered. Once upon a time, I described the greatest influences in my life as being Elizabeth Bennett, Anne Shirley, Laura Ingalls Wilder, and Scarlett O'Hara.

I'm hoping to finally read Little Women this summer--maybe there's time enough left for Jo to still influence me :)

I think I am excited about all of the them! I am least familiar with Scout Finch, Claudine and Mary Lennox since I haven't read those books. I really need to read To Kill A Mockingbird soon. I have my mom's old copy which makes the idea of sitting to read it fun. I wonder if she made notes in the margins?

This is simply not fair! I CANNOT wait!!!! I think I would love to start with Dignity and compassion (because I really loved those two books), or... Elisabeth Bennet? , or Scarlet O'Hara? or... gosh... Ambition! Magic!
Who else would I have liked to see? I think I am perfectly content with the Heroines you chose! :) (my apologies to the other 2353252525235 you didn't)

Part of my criteria for choosing author/heroine pairs was to have an incident from the author's life that shed new or interesting light on her actual heroine, and I felt that MHL's life was too parallel to Betsy's to be super surprising. I also wanted to get a good mix of familiar, well-loved and lesser-known books, and I felt kind of like it was LHOP or Betsy-Tacy in that case. But oh do I LOVE the Betsy-Tacy books!

This is wonderful!! I'm a big fan of Jo, Anne, Laura and Francie, among others - so excited to read it. I do wish you'd been able to include Betsy Ray!
